[1] Literally, this translates to "Your smile has become older", which has two meanings. The one I took for the translation, like a faded, but unchanging picture, and also that the person smiling has aged but the smile has remained the same, but with the next note about possible context I thought the first was more accurate in this case.
Also, in Japan carnations symbolize death, so it could be that this person he loves has died, but, like a child he wants to keep her selfishly to himself. The distance mentioned could be the distance between this world and the next one. Even though the woman has to deal with the pain of leaving people behind, she modestly begs him to smile in spite of his pain.
I was told that this song is dedicated to yasu's mother, which makes it even more poignant. I hope that the possible references to death in this song are not true, in this case.
